A student guide to Halloween in Brighton
If you started life as a Brighton fresher this September, we hope you’re over the flu and you’ve safely bedded down into student life in the city. If you’re new to Brighton, Halloween will be a treat! With so much going on, you’re guaranteed a great night of unusual and characteristically weird Brighton delights. Here’s a rundown of our favourite venues that always put on a show.
Krater Comedy Club - Komedia
Komedia stands out as a go-to Brighton venue throughout the year. Having won Best Venue in the South a record 14 times, you’re always guaranteed a great night, whatever the occasion. Dressing up for its Krater comedy Halloween specials isn’t compulsory but it is encouraged to match its devilish line up and fun, themed drinks.
Halloween nights return to one of Brighton’s busiest nightclubs by the beach. Known for its penchant for all things crazy and creepy, expect an eclectic night of costumes, prizes and everything in-between on the 28th – unfortunately, its party on the 31st is now sold out.
This retro bar, which also serves amazing food FYI, in the heart of Brighton is known to celebrate Halloween for a whole month rather than a single weekend. If you feel like getting into the festive spirit early, Mesmerist hangs up its decorations at the beginning of October, which then culminates in a party to remember weeks later. This year, the venue is gearing up for its 6th annual Day of the Dead celebration on the 28th from 8pm.
Escape the Room
Any night dubbed ‘The Crystal Maze on meth’ is worth a look. There are various escape room games around Brighton as these day-out-with-a-difference challenges gain popularity. Lady Chastity’s Reserve at the Black Lion Pub, BN1 1ND, promises laughs, jumps and screams as groups navigate their way around a room filled with strange contraptions and mysterious objects. Will you succeed or hear the finish bell echo?
The Old Market, Hove
If you feel like combining the wistfulness of Bram Stoker with a comedy crew, directed by John Nicholson, Dracula: The Bloody Truth is the event for you on October 24–28.
This design-led chocolatier in central Brighton specialises in unique chocolate sculpture, gifts and naughty treats to grab at lunchtime: a perfect concoction of treasures to peruse at Halloween! Visit the store along The Lanes for yourself, or browse its Halloween goodies online to escape the mad dash.
One of Brighton’s biggest nightclubs is once again putting on a show for the spookiest date in its calendar from 27th October. Described as modern, sleek and stylish, PRYZM is a go-to bar, club and hang out for students in Brighton. Its 2017 celebrations kick off on Friday night with a Halloween Weekender with Scotty T, set across 3 rooms with confetti, lasers, pyro tricks, dancers stilt walkers and more. It promises to be quite a night.
