Bright and breezy Brighton is gearing up for a month-long round of eclectic events that you can’t see anywhere else. From Artists Houses to the Brighton Fringe, May is a monthly highlight in the city’s calendar. Here are 10 top events that we’ve noted in our diaries.

Krater Comedy Club - 44-47 Gardner Street, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 1UN

Headliner Nathan Caton will take to the stage on 5th May, alongside Paul Myrehaug, Tom Wrigglesworth and MC Stephen Grant for a night of laughs, thrills, and hopefully not too many spills.

Artists Open Houses, various locations, 6th to 29th May

Over 1,200 artists across the city will be welcoming visitors through the doors of more than 180 venues across the city for this year’s Artists Open Houses throughout May. From unique jewellery, and sculpture, pottery and paintings, watching craftsman at work and workshops, the festival provides plenty of engaging and eye-opening works for everyone.  

Brighton Bricks Lego Show – Dice Saloon, Vantage Point, New England Rd, Brighton BN1 4GW

Regress to childhood long afternoons with Lego at the Dice Saloon on 13th May. See intricate Lego displays and play Lego games inside this popular shop/café/games venue.

Sussex & The World Weekend: Big Sussex Market – Hove Lawns, 27th to 29th May 2017

Join the crowds at the south of England’s biggest food and drink festival, for free! Sample local foodie treats, sip summer cocktails and local wines and finish up with a stroll along Brighton beach in the evening. A perfect way to see in the summer.

The Warren - St Peter's Church North, 4th May to 4th June 2017

Described as a ‘festival within a festival’ the month-long Warren festival is a celebration of all things creative and entertaining, with 600 performances ranging from circus acts and fun activities for all the family to fantastic food stalls and music acts.

The Great Escape Festival 2017, various locations, 18th May to 20th May 2017

Discover fresh music acts and reacquaint yourself with long-standing favourites during the hustle and bustle of the Great Escape weekend this May. Brighton Palace Pier & Peter Joannou Brighton's Singing Barber will be hosting MusicFest this May in aid of Cancer Research UK, with top-notch performances from the likes of Sam Tier, Winter Thieves and soprano Sylvia Rota.

Children’s Parade, Kensington Street, 6th May

Every year, the Children’s Parade in the centre of the city kicks off Brighton Festival in style, with a fountain of colour, costumes and music. Reputed the be the biggest event of its kind in Europe, more than 80 schools and 5000 participants are expected to take to the streets to interpret this year’s theme of Poetry in Motion.
